Environmental Issues – Climate Change In Oregon
As climate change becomes an increasingly important issue for Oregonians this program will explore the effects of climate change that are playing out in our state. This program features two speakers who will speak to climate change from a cultural context perspective and provide information on policy efforts at the state level.
Speaker: Samantha Chisholm Hatfield (Oregon Climate Change Research Institute). Native communities are disproportionately affected by climate change, and don’t always have access to the same level of climate change information as to how it applies to their community, and culture. This presentation showcases research that provides information that to help close that information gap, as well as address adaptation measures within cultural contexts of Native communities, and impacts from climate change that have created changes and adaptations.
Speaker: Jessica Shipley Department of Energy – Staff to Oregon Global Warming Commission). The presentation will cover some of Oregon’s key historical policy initiatives to reduce emissions, provide analysis of the Oregon Global Warming Commission’s 2015 report, and share the legislation that passed last session.
