Risky Business: Understanding the Links between Climate Change and Human Health Risks @ Taproot Cafe and Lounge | Salem | Oregon | United States

This talk will unpack the science behind many of the headline-grabbing climate change risks seen and talked about in Oregon today. These include harmful algae blooms like those that affected Salem’s drinking water this past summer and smoke from wildfires that are increasing in frequency and intensity across the West, but also lesser-known emerging health concerns like rising cases of cryptococcal infections from airborne fungus in Oregon. Come with questions about climate topics on your mind!

Lesley Jantarasami worked for 8 years on climate change science and policy at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and now leads climate work at the Oregon Department of Energy. She is a published author of 14 peer-reviewed scientific articles and national report chapters, including the U.S. Climate and Health Assessment and the Fourth National Climate Assessment, and her research was included in the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report volume on Climate Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability.

The presentation is free and open to the general public. Donations are appreciated. For more information or if there are any questions contact Jon Yoder at joyoder73@gmail.com
