Lake Missoula Flood and its Effects in Your Backyard @ Louck's Auditorium (Salem City Library)

The great glacial Lake Missoula flood left scars literally in the Portland area’s own backyard. Join us as author, artist, and photographer Rick Thompson will present his research uncovering the effects of the Missoula Flood in the Portland /Vancouver area. This catastrophic flood propelled over 500 cubic miles of water, ice, rock and mud across eastern Washington, further cut the Columbia River Gorge, covered the Willamette Valley with up to 400 feet of water and left gravel bars miles wide and hundreds of feet high. With color photos, topographical maps and space photos Rick shows some of the signs still visible today. The program is open to the public with admission of $5 at the door with students free.
